Dr. Eric Joseph
Dr. Eric Joseph is the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at Mid America Christian University; Dr. Joseph’s principal duties include working with the President by directing the annual strategic planning process, as well as helping to shape campus diversity initiatives, and in implementing academic initiatives. Dr. Joseph serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet. Dr. Joseph has been associate dean and chaplain of the Drs. John William and Annie Laurie Coleman Heritage Center, at Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma. He began his full-time faculty responsibilities in August 1997. He also served Langston’s president as an executive administrator for special assignments, which involved quality initiatives in faculty development, curriculum review and assessment, student life, and representation of Langston University at government and civic functions.
Overcoming many obstacles and challenges during his formative years, Dr. Joseph became the youngest graduate student to earn the Doctorate of Philosophy in Intercultural Education with honors at the prestigious evangelical Biola University in La Mirada, California. His highly acclaimed tome of a dissertation was entitled: “Mandate for Diversity: A Comparative Analysis of the Black Studies Movement at San Francisco State University and the African-American Experience at Biola University.” A dean’s list graduate student, he also earned a Master of Divinity in Biblical Exposition with a concentration in New Testament (Koine Greek) languages, a Master of Arts in Christian Education, and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a concentration in radio, television, and film—all from Biola University. After his graduation from Biola University, he was highly recruited by another prominent evangelical institution across town, Azusa Pacific University (APU) in Azusa, CA. He taught undergraduate and graduate students in the school of education and behavioral studies, as well as the college of liberal arts and sciences from 1993 to 1997. He was actively involved in co-designing with his mentor a new innovative interdisciplinary department of global (international) studies, which produced its first residential total immersion experiential urban and international (missions) community service learning institutions, the Los Angeles and Global Learning Terms.
In the summer of 1996, Dr. Joseph was selected by his peers to teach an international business graduate course Managing Cultural Differences in Europe for Azusa Pacific University department of higher education and organizational leadership’s Operation Impact masters program in London (Popular), England; Gumpoldskirchen, Austria; Bussigen, Germany; and Shauffhausen, Switzerland. Dr. Joseph’s inimitable depiction of his “’Macro-Culture and Micro-Culture’ Know Thyself” paradigm teaches participants to create inclusive P-12/higher education environments, programs, and curriculum; to improve campus racial and ethnic relations; to expand opportunities for educational access and success by culturally diverse, traditionally underrepresented populations. Dr. Joseph comes from a family of professional athletes. In 1985, as a student athlete at Biola University he was voted the recipient of the distinguished Bob Wheeler Award as the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Male-Athlete-Of-The-Year. He was recognized for his highest standards of Christian (moral) character, athletic achievement, and campus leadership.
This honor is equivalent to the NCAA’s Heisman trophy or the Bob Wooden award. As a student-athlete in only two-years, he was a ten-time NCCAA All-American and two time national champion in the triple jump. He is the second all-time leading scorer for a season at Biola University. He anchored the 4X100 meter and 4X400 meter sprint relays, high jump, long jump, and triple jump. He later trained and attempted to qualify for the United States of America Olympic and National Track and Field teams in the men’s triple jump. While completing his graduate studies at Biola University, he served as the assistant Track and Field coach from 1985 to 1994. Dr. Joseph retired from active professional competition in 1998. Dr. Joseph is married to Jill (Redo) Joseph. Mrs. Joseph graduated with her bachelor of arts in history from The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. She was a Parade, Kodak, and NCAA all-American track athlete, Miss Fitness gymnast, and Buckeye cheerleader. She is currently a graduate student in speech pathology at the University Of Oklahoma’s Health Science Campus.
